Is Burns overrated?

...Burns night is approaching...he is the Scots own Bard...but is his work really worth the adulation his countrymen afford to him?

Well, without Burns, the kilt and bagpipes,whisky, highland dancing and the Loch Ness Monster, hatred of their Masters, the English....what else is there to cling on to ??

Oh, I forgot the local Heroes, Sean Connery and Nicola Sturgeon...one doesn't want to live there, and the other soon won't!!!




Only joking........but if I was a Scot, I would vote for independence, but since I Iive in England, I would not be allowed to anyway!!

Robert Burns is Scotlands national poet and they celebrate him every 25 January.

Every 31 December at Midnight I link arms with friends and we all sing his poem that`s been put to music ... 'Auld Lang Syne.'

As someone once said about him ....

So to answer the original question, in my 'umble opinion as a Scot (who's also not allowed to vote in any independence referendum), most definitely Yes.

To laud and celebrate someone that probably 98% of the (Scottish) population can't even understand? And even if you can, most of it doesn't make sense.

Bit like Chaucer really for the English.

As a Scot myself- I'm a bit bewildered by the whole Burns scenario.
Having said that , I've played (musically) at many Burns night celebrations over the years .
Even here in Spain .
