Abandoned UK car

Post: # 31959Post jimny1 »

I take the dog for a walk around blue lagoon normally at night and i see a renault car registration SL58VCT parked at the side of the road with its front side window a quarter open
It has been there 6 months and in the same spot with the window this way
I tried a uk vehicle check and the car is coming up grey, not blue and it says it is a volkswagen , but the front of the car has the diamond renault badge 'colour edited'
There are no badges or tax indicators on the window
It is around 2009 or slightly later according to the reg
I know the correct procedure would be to inform the guardia but i dont really want to get involved especially if the owner has fell on hard times and had to leave it to go back to the uk and could possibly be returning
There again it could be stolen and abandoned or is on false plates
Any advice appreciated

We had a very similar situation last year when a car had been left and the council wanted to do some work to the pavement and kerb stones and it was in the way They put a denuncia on it
Neighbours in the area posted on all the Facebook sites about the car reg location etc etc and low and behold a keyholder came forward and it was moved
It turned out that the owner had been stranded due to Covid restrictions He was very pleased not to have it impounded
So I would get it on FB and ask people to share Its about the only positive about FB

If it was me I would ignore it and let it be. 6 months isn't a long time. The owner's are probably holiday home owners and will return. Glad to see it hasn't been vandalised. The owners must know it's a safe place to leave it.

The strange thing is the window being left open, unless the electrical mechanism is not working , it's lucky it has been relatively dry recently but when we get the torrential rain that is normal after a dry spell the inside of the car will be flooded
The other strange thing is the number plate not tallying up with the model of the car

DVLA records have been known to be inaccurate in the past, but on minor details such as the colour of a vehicle, not the make/model.

SL58VCT is suppose to be a VW Polo 1.4SE, 3 door in grey. Mot and tax expires in December this year, and is shown as being insured on the motor insurance database.

Yes all looks a bit murky. Did you accidentally see if it was locked! If it's not locked then it is abandoned as who would leave their car unlocked.

I didnt want to try the door incase it was alarmed, although after about six months the battery is probably flat
