Google translate:

The dreaded radar of the CV-905 also "hunts" the official car of the Mayor's Office of Torrevieja

The City Council is forced to identify at the request of the DGT the official who drove the vehicle used by the mayor, Eduardo Dolón, and his government team.

Who hasn't been fined or doesn't know someone who has been sanctioned? by the insatiable radar of the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) of the CV-905 in Torrevieja? The device, which looks like a "TIE fighter" from Star Wars, leads down the street of bitterness -or rather by the road of the "roundabouts"- hundreds of drivers since its launch on this interurban road just a year ago.

And now it has been the turn of the car assigned to the Mayor's Office of the Torrevieja City Council. The Skoda Superb was caught by this sophisticated kinemometer located at kilometer 7 of this road on July 9 for speeding. The fine to the driver officer is for a minor infraction. One hundred euros. So it will cost the treasury 50 with the bonus.

Dossier

The sanction has generated - we are in Spain - its corresponding derivation in an administrative file in the City Council with several sequences. The most relevant, a report with a proposal for "recognition of payment obligation" signed by the Director General of Economy, Finance, Youth and Heritage, in which it is indicated that the DGT has called on the local administration to identify the driver who was driving at "a speed higher than that legally established". In another communication, the municipality identifies the "sanctioned" official, and finally the withholding of credit is resolved with its corresponding item and payment with bonus. As any individual would do in such a case, the Intervention and Treasury are asked to hurry up the payment to enter the subsidized period.

Fifty kilometers

It is not difficult to exceed the speed limit in this section, set at 50 kilometers per hour, although it is not an urban area. The road has two lanes in each direction of travel in a straight area, marked by housing developments and pedestrian crossings at each roundabout. The road supports a traffic density of 35,000 vehicles per day on average and is the main access in and out of the city. Drivers warned abruptly slow down when they reach the vicinity of the radar and then return to their normal speed, until the next roundabout - they have to overcome 14 in ten kilometres.

The Skoda Superb, registered in 2022 although it is not one of those representative sedans that the mayors of the Vega Baja Before the brick crisis, it's not bad at all: elegant and discreet, the Polish brand's car cost 46,000 euros. It was ordered with 190 hp, a top speed of 235 kilometers per hour and tinted windows among other standard "extras" in high-end vehicles. Of course, equipped with a reliable diesel engine. And he has already been fined on other occasions.

Deputation

In this supposed austere attitude, the municipality opted for the same vehicle that the Provincial Council uses to travel its public offices. It was in the final stretch of the previous term. When the contracts for the renewal of the local fleet of vehicles appeared attached to the Department of the Mayor's Office, Eduardo Dolón was quick to assure that he was not going to use it. When the new flotilla was presented, in August 2022, the government team decided to hide the new Skoda. He did not appear. In the municipal inventory of vehicles it appears as Asset Number 28 "assigned to the Mayor's Office".

Time diluted the danger of the matter becoming controversial because the councillor had already earned one in his first term for making 300-metre journeys in his official car, an outdated but spectacular Volkswagen Phaenton inherited from the Mayor's Office of Pedro Hernández.

Thus, the new official car was threatened for some time until shortly after the 2023 elections.

But the mayor relaxed and his promise also vanished. It is the vehicle they use for their journeys when they are not private. And it is usually available at the foot of the City Hall. Of course, it is also used by the councilors who represent the City Council in different official acts outside the city. For procedures in the urban area they usually use vehicles assigned to the different areas. But the Skoda is not the invisible car. The DGT knows this well.

Actually no, I understood that the local police, Guardia Civil, and Ayuntamiento Torrevieja, did not want it downgrading from 80kmh. It was a missive from Comunidad Valencia because, on paper, it is a stretch of road that runs between some dense urbanisations.
