The Torrevieja City Council will organize the "Torrevieja 2026" earthquake drill next Wednesday, March 4, 2026, an exercise coordinated by the Valencian Government that will test the municipal response capacity to a large-scale emergency, including the risk of earthquake and tsunami.

The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, together with the councilor for Security and Emergencies, Federico Alarcón, and the Chief of the Main Fire Station of Torrevieja, Tomás Gallardo , have presented this drill which will become the most important and largest operation in the Valencian Community, in which more than 350 people will participate.

Start at 9 am

The drill will begin at 9 a.m., following the prior concentration of resources at 8 a.m., with the activation of the pre-emergency phase for a possible tsunami on the Alicante coast, mainly in Torrevieja. This will lead the City Council to activate its Municipal Territorial Emergency Plan (PTM), the CECOPAL and the coordination and self-protection protocols, sending an ES-ALERT to the mobile phones of the entire population of Torrevieja informing them of the start of this drill.

Throughout the morning, various operational actions will take place, including preventive evacuations in three main scenarios: the International Auditorium (Scenario 1), the CP Nuestra Señora del Rosario (Scenario 2), and the Aquópolis water park (Scenario 3), where the Basic Intervention, Security, Health, Damage Assessment and Shelter and Assistance Units will intervene.

The operation will involve officers from the Local Police, Civil Guard, Civil Protection, SAMU, Red Cross, firefighters from the Provincial Consortium of Alicante, Valencia and Castellón, and SPEIS, forest firefighters , along with other security and emergency forces, as well as manned and unmanned aerial resources, rescue helicopters and a seaplane, drones and specialized units.

Extras participate

The drill will also include the participation of extras and the mobilization of municipal resources for the management of evacuees, the care of simulated victims and the coordination of basic services.

The exercise, which will end at 12:30 pm with a subsequent debriefing and sharing session in the International Auditorium, has as its main objective to strengthen coordination between administrations and emergency services, evaluate the effectiveness of municipal protocols and improve the response capacity to real situations of seismic risk, guaranteeing the safety of the citizens of Torrevieja.

The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has thanked the Provincial Council of Alicante and the Department of Emergencies of the Valencian Government for their involvement in this prevention exercise that will be held in Torrevieja next Wednesday, March 4, as well as all the people who will participate in its development and execution.
