Not a name many will know, but perhaps the face will be familiar to some from events held in Torrevieja. The gentleman certainly appeared in shot on a number of YouTube videos that have captured events in Torrevieja over the years.

Torrevieja bids a fond farewell to Cayetano Paredes

Torrevieja yesterday witnessed a farewell filled with emotion and deep affection for Cayetano Paredes García , a much-loved figure in the city whose human touch will remain for a long time in the memory of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Family, friends, and many others who shared moments with him over the years gathered at the Church of the Immaculate Conception , where the funeral mass was officiated by Vicar Fernando Galvañ .The temple was filled with respectful silence and memories that, amidst emotional glances, recalled the figure of a simple, approachable man with a heart that knew how to win the affection of the entire city.

Cayetano was a very special person in the recent history of Torrevieja. His name is forever linked to a significant event: he was the first person with a disability to work as a municipal employee, an example of integration and overcoming adversity that paved the way for others and demonstrated that willpower and affection can break down any barrier.

But his presence in the city's social life was much broader. For years he was closely linked to the Torrevieja Musical Union, an organization that named him an honorary musician, a recognition that symbolized the affection and respect he always inspired among musicians and music lovers. His relationship with the band was part of his daily life, and it was common to see him sharing moments with those who, like him, felt music as a form of friendship.

He also received the title of Honorary Local Police Officer, a gesture with which the force wanted to thank him for his closeness and constant friendliness with all the officers, with whom he always maintained a very special relationship.

Cayetano will also be remembered for his connection to Holy Week in Torrevieja, as a member of the San Juan brotherhood, participating devoutly in one of the city's most deeply rooted traditions. His presence at the events and celebrations was an integral part of the Torrevieja landscape, always with a warm smile and a kind word for everyone.

Another important chapter of his life was linked to the ALPE Centre , where he was one of its key figures and where he shared experiences that helped consolidate a fundamental project for the care and development of people with disabilities in the city. There, he also left behind the memory of his warm personality, his joy, and his ability to convey affection.

Among the many people who came to pay their last respects was the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, accompanied by several members of the municipal council, who wanted to show their support and solidarity with the family during this difficult time. They all agreed that Cayetano was a truly endearing person who, with his natural kindness and pure heart, made life a little brighter for those around him.

Yesterday, Torrevieja not only said goodbye to a much-loved resident. It also said goodbye to someone who, without seeking the limelight, earned the respect and affection of the entire city. And that memory, as simple and sincere as he was, will remain alive in the collective memory of Torrevieja.

-----------

Eduardo Dolón shared an image of a young Cayetano in his police uniform.

"Today we bid farewell to someone who left a mark on all of us who had the fortune to know him.

We deeply regret the passing of Cayetano Paredes García, Honorary Police Officer of Torrevieja"
