Help with sorting out a GP and prescription drugs
Help with sorting out a GP and prescription drugs
Hi ,
Can someone offer some advice on how to arrange a GP and prescriptions?
I know I need to obtain a S1 from the UK and register it somewhere in Spain, BUT how do you sort out a GP?
I live on the Orihuela Costa but can I use any medical facilities in Torrevieja?
I'm on five different drugs for my heart: how do I go on in getting them prescribed to me in Spain? My initial thought is to get 12 weeks of drugs from my UK GP and then get the S1 and then look to somehow get them prescribed by a Spanish GP - do my medical notes get transferred over?
Are there some GP's that people consider to be more helpful than others?
Any advice would be welcomed.
Thanks

Can't really help, but I would most certainly get the 12 week supply from the GP back in the UK
Re: Help with sorting out a GP and prescription drugs
It is quite a long time since we did this and it was Torrevieja. First get S1 paperwork from uk and then get an appointment at the INNIS (??? social security office) which is next door to the Salud in Torrevieja. Good luck there! Take the S1 and a copy of everything you can think of including income proof. The INNIS office will then give you some paperwork and then go to your local Salud and register. The salud will then give you a SIP card and allocate you to a doctor.
The other way is pay someone to do it on line for you. Would not recommend doing it yourself unless very IT and Spanish literate.
You could temporary register at your local Salud if you have a EHIC card.??? 6 months.

.....and no...your UK medical records do not get transferred.

But you can always ask you UK GP if they will give you a copy of your medical records and get them translated to Spanish but the GP you will be allocated to will want to do their own tests and will give you prescriptions
