Re: Vaccination rates in Spain
That's a shame re cancellations etc. I think I saw in the news that the UK has 5 million AZ in stock but as these are only for 'older' people the youngsters cannot have them. Think we get 1.5m of other non az jabs per week. Should be some cooperation going on as we will have a surplus of AZ soon if not now.

Water under the bridge now as the EU won't ever be relying on AZ 's "best efforts" again. I think you would call it an own goal. I would have preferred a different vaccine to AZ but I was in the age group chosen to use up the AZ. Who wants a 12 to 16 week wait between jabs when its only 4 weeks for Pfizer and Moderna.Sheff_Blade wrote: 11 Jun 2021 14:55I can't see how anyone can blame AZ. Following the EU's accusations against AZ, I think it was clearly proved that the EU's contract with AZ is based on 'best efforts'. Problems with the supply of raw materials, processing issues etc etc can and will affect production. AZ made this clear from the start and the UK contract with AZ was drawn up with this in mind.Bee wrote: 11 Jun 2021 08:23 AZ are really to blame as once again they haven't honoured their contract.

Unfortunately the EU couldn’t get out of the mindset of playing politics. Had they allowed France and Germany to go ahead with the contracts they had during the first lockdown, then the situation might have been better. Bet then the heavy hand of the commission came into play. They demanded that they took charge, cancelled the contracts and then started the tortuous process of negotiating for vaccines. France being France insisted since they were vaccine producers the EU should take a large proportion of their production. Unfortunately the French vaccine fell at the first fence!! In the meantime other countries were getting on vaccinating their citizens. The EU then changed the rules a number of times, first the vaccine was OK for over 65s, them it wasn’t , then it was not OK for the young - what a shambles. The different times between the giving of the various vaccines depends on the efficacy of the vaccine and it’s ability to protect against the virus. You can have the AstraZeneca vaccine earlier but by leaving it for 12 of so weeks gives a greater level of protection. So how has the EU done for the smaller countries ( excluding the big 5 or 6) - I bet they were glad that they had the help of the EU!! Whereas the Spanish citizens who work in Gibraltar and were fully vaccinated by the U.K. before nearly all of Spain had had their first jab were quite pleased about the situation. Would this be the time to mention that AZ is provided at cost whereas all the other vaccines are making a very healthy profit?

There have been a lot of mistakes everywhere you look but going forward and with the summer here I hope it reduces further as we move along and I hope I am on the plane next Saturday. The tests and isolation will put most people off of going to amber countries from UK and many can't isolate because of their jobs. To be honest I would like to get stuck in Spain for the next three months.
Re: Vaccination rates in Spain
Rspltd just to say there are a lot of factual inaccuracies in your post but as I said all water under the bridge now. I can only speak for Ireland as one of the small countries. There will be approx 4 million vaccines administered by end June and the 2nd dose of AZ has been pulled back to 8 weeks due to concern about the efficacy of 1 dose of AZ and its ability to fight the new variants. So we are moving along at a pace and lucky to be part of the EU contract.

Re: Vaccination rates in Spain
Interesting statistic, more people have been vaccinated in cornwall than in the world's 22 poorest countries, none of us are safe until we are all safe.
Re: Vaccination rates in Spain
If that is cases per million, that suggests the borders were closed too late, again, as the UK was well ahead in numbers vaccinated and bringing down cases , until the Indian border was not closed along with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
One week, 10,000 arrivals makes all the difference. We should have learned that lesson from before.
