Just an update regarding my licence renewal, i am 71
Booked the test at campoamor pharmacy near blue lagoon where i live for yesterday
Paid the 40 euros for the exam. nothing for the licence renewal as over 65, and took the steering test , i thought i wasn't doing well as it bleeped a few times, but after the test the girl said i did really well and sent me in to the doctor
She asked me a few questions about tablets etc and to confirm my address etc, and said all ok and i would have a 5 years renewal until the next exam and took a photo for the new driving licence , mine expires december anyway
I also opted to have the licence delivered to the pharmacy as i don't trust correos , especially with having mail in a backlog , and she said she would call me when it arrived to pick up, i also gave my e mail address incase she got no reply by phone for some reason
So all very simple with no worries

You normally do a sight test, similar to a opticians. You could be as blind as a bat !!

I was wearing my glasses when i did the steering test, maybe because i did so well and kept both cars inside the lanes that showed how good my eyesight was , if i had bad eyesight i would not have been able to see the screen clearly

That's nothing to do with eyesight. That's a co-ordination test. You should have been given an eyesight test similar to what you would get at an optician.

Just for positive information about renewing a Spanish driving licenses.
Husband is 71 and went to renew his license on 11th September. He went to a designated testing centre in the middle of Torrevieja called Smart Salud. He took his soon to expire driving license, TIE, passport and padron (just in case they were all needed). Took the simulator driving test on the computer, had an eye test which was reading the letters on the wall (same as at the opticians) and answered a few health questions. Smart Salud sent all the information to DGT and issued a temporary driving license. This cost him ??? 35 euros....he is over 70 years old.
The very good news is that his new driving license arrived yesterday. A wait of less than 7 weeks and the license is valid until 2030...5 years.
Would highly recommend the service.
