You are correct, the EU member state would still remain in the their respective timezones of WET, CET, EET or AZOT in the case of the Azores. I cannot imagine it going down well if the UK Government announces that BST will now be called CET in future to align with the EU.

Just looking at the latest reporting out of the EU, and seems that whilst Sanchez has faced no formal opposition to his proposal, he has also not gained no formal support.

The EU directive on daylight saving time expires in 2026, on no specific date, so these discussions within the EU have the potential to drag on for months. The only options seem to be renew the directive, or replace with something that allows countries to choose whether they want to choose permanent winter or summer time. Probably if it gets all too difficult between the EU countries the current directive will get renewed for x number of years.

The debate for abolishing daylight saving time could go on forever, with supporters and non-supportors putting forward seemingly valid reasons, with supporters claiming, amongst other things..... Increased health risks. The shift has been associated with a spike in heart attacks, strokes, and cardiovascular issues in the days following the change.
Sleep disruption: The change leads to a temporary, but impactful, period of sleep deprivation, which can cause fatigue, grogginess, and reduced cognitive function.

Whilst non - supporters claim, again amongst other things ...Reduced crime: It is argued that increased evening daylight can lead to a decrease in certain crimes, as people are more visible and active.
Fewer road accidents in the evening: Driving is generally safer during daylight hours, so more light during the evening commute may reduce accidents.

And of course with the remote chance that it will abolished , what permanent time is to be adopted. Should it be Permanent Standard Time or Permanent Daylight Saving Time.

I think the new Torrevieja N332 four lane widening will be finished by then.

I do not want to get involved in a political debate, but I came across this article that was published today. An MP is proposing the reintroduction of "Churchill Time" in the UK, meaning clocks will go 2 hours forward in summer and 1 hour back in winter.

2 hours forward in the Summer but just 1 back the following winter? Won't that mean time will creep forward? In 12 years the sun will be rising at 6 or 7 in the evening?
