Re: aka FC Torrevieja
About a month ago, the latest incarnation, CD Torrevieja, was disbanded due to all the debts they had incurred and were unable to pay. A new football club was created and called "SPORTING COSTA BLANCA". This is now the main team representing the town of of Torrevieja with the backing of the Mayor and the Sports minister. Why they've been given such a 'regional' name I do not know!

Thanks for that. I knew CD Torrevieja was struggling with debts, but was unaware they had folded and reincarnated under a new name.Sheff_Blade wrote: 09 Oct 2020 23:12 About a month ago, the latest incarnation, CD Torrevieja, was disbanded due to all the debts they had incurred and were unable to pay. Real shame that 'Torrevieja' does not feature in the new club name, seems to have lost its local identity with 'Sporting Costa Blanca'.

Where are they going to play their home games now The original stadium had been shut for some years and they were playing at the sports complex which never felt quite right With ' Torrevieja' no longer in the name will they have to play outside the town

They will be playing at the Estadia Estaban Rosado which I believe is one of the pitches by the sports centre and swimming pool, though not the Nelson Mandela where they've been for the last couple of years.

Torrevieja CF used to be lower down the league structure than FC Torrevieja (who were in the third division group 6). You couldn't see Torrevieja CF results on Futbolme.com for example. But I'm not sure now as FC Torrevieja have dropped down a couple of leagues. I don't know where Torrevieja CF play their home games; I always assumed somewhere in the sports area.

Just found the website for the new Torrevieja football club https://sportingcostablanca.es/2020/es/
I spotted that they have an online shop. They want 45 euros for a home shirt! I can't imagine they're flying off the shelves! You could probably get a Barca or Real Madrid shirt for half that at a market. Amazing, when you consider the old Torry football shirt used to be around 15 euros; I'm going back around ten years but even so!
