What is that "thing"erected behind the water wall in the centre. Numerous alluminum plates with letters on - imo they look awful.

I have not seen anything mentioned in the press about it.

That's it. I can appreciate a lot of modern artistic works but this one just does nothing for me.

This is a roundabout near me in Cardiff which I think really works

It is part of the young architects exhibition called Ephemeral Architecture and there are installations on Plaza Waldo and Calle Joaquin Chapaprietta. There are QR codes which tell you what the installations represent.

Seven structures, conceived as urban interventions of a temporary and festive nature, offer Torrevieja passersby an architectural, emotional and didactic reading of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) promoted by the United Nations.

It is about the Ephemeral Architectures (AE), which Adriana Figueiras organizes together with students and graduates of architecture from the University of Alicante (UA). This year, from October 3 to 31, the event displays seven installations along the central Joaquín Chapaprieta Street and Waldo Calero Square to explainthe SDGs in a sensory and attractive way.

The installation behind the fountain:

Sponsored by Agamed (Waters of the Mediterranean Arc), this installation is integrated into the fountain in Plaza Waldo Calero with a vibrant concept that incorporates stimulating phrases (referring to each SDG). It seeks to produce an immersive effect in the passerby that will transform the space of the square.

It is a structure of 1600 small hanging mirrors and is 17 meters long. To read the phrases, people must walk and tour the facility. As they collect the written message, they also receive the sensations caused by light, the sound of water, and the movement of air over words and structure.

As it is the installation that brings together the idea of vision and goals shared by all the objectives at a global, regional and local level, it brings together the following values:

It presents an iconic piece that will surprise the public for its participatory and integrative notion.

It has phrases that can be perceived in different ways: they can have the color of the sky that is seen through them, they can let light pass through to project enlarged texts on the square, they can be read from beginning to end or crosswise, allowing the viewer makes free mental connections between them.

It offers height to be seen from different angles and people can be photographed with it.

It includes mobile elements that will vibrate with the wind or water to stimulate the public's senses and mobilize their participation and involvement.

Take mirrors to create magical and multidimensional environments, reflecting the city and the people.

There is another exhibition in the Modern Art Museum in Alicante of a plastic island. It is constructed entirely of plastic water bottles. The inspuration for it was to bring attention to the islands of rubbish now floating in the Pacific Ocean. The artists enlisted the help of school children in Alicante to collect the bottles and help her construct the island. It looks truly stunning

No need to worry stowie39, the art installation was only temporary until 31 October and we are now the um .... 18 November.

Remember if they had removed it on time, you would not have benefited from seeing it or posted about it, and so people like me would not have been aware of it.

Did you travel before the latest lockdown Stowie, or is/was Wales ok for foreign travel? Did you fly?

I'm curious as we have flights booked this Saturday with Ryanair. Ryanair haven't cancelled them, and I'm still getting emails about checking in and buying seats! We are assuming we can't travel, being based in England, and especially after reading something yesterday about people being fined for trying to use the ferry (or channel tunnel) at Dover. The flight bookings are still valid and I'm curious if Ryanair will make the trip with an empty plane!

Just been a bit slow getting into Torrevieja. We've been here since beginning of October having left Wales 2 hours before the Cardiff local lockdown started on 25th September. Drove down in our campervan. We leave next week for the return journey. I think I have all of them necessary paperwork for travel through France and Spain, you can only cross borders if you are returning to your primary residence and you also need to be able to show you have a Channel booking.

As far as I have read I'm sure you are not allowed to travel for "holiday's" and some airlines are a bit reluctant to reschedule/refund.

Just checked in to Ryanair for our flight in two and a half hours time - obviously we're not going because we're locked down. Curiously though, I counted 40 empty seats available which means there must be around 240 passengers who have checked in. They could be like us, checked in but not going, but I would be interested to know how many people are flying to Alicante tonight. I guess we'll never find out.
