An article in today' Informacion says the reduction of quarantine to 5 days for inbound passengers in the UK has seen a big pick-up in numbers from UK. Together with the EU 6 month extension to UK carriers this has given them cause for optimism going into 2021. Unfortunately the Canaries are gone back on the EU red list due to the increase in Covid numbers.

The quarantine is still 10 days not 5 days, but It can be reduced to 7 or 8 days after test results .. hardly worth paying 65 - 120 pounds for just a few more days.
I fail to see how these extra couple of days can result in a pick-up in passenger numbers from the UK !!
Looking at the Governments website you can't take a self release test until your sixth day on entering the UK, and you can't come out of self -isolation until you get the results which could take 24 / 48 hrs. Another thing is that you can only use one of the 11 private test providers on the Government website.
I'd rather sit it out and save the money !!!
So all in all, a very misleading article.

I heard earlier , that UK - Spain flights are suspended from tommorow, for a month . Is this true ,?

Last night the Spanish Government said they would not be imposing any flight restrictions on the UK as they already had the PCR test protocol in place for people arriving from the UK by plane, however they did a u-turn today.

As I understand it flights are still permitted from the UK to Spain, however only Spanish nationals or registered Spanish residents are permitted to travel, and they must still conform with the existing PCR test requirements when entering Spain. I have not seen any mention as to how long the restrictions on the UK will be in place for.

I assume that due to the reduction in passenger numbers due to these restrictions, airlines will be cancelling flights which may cause problems for those Spanish nationals or residents trying to return to Spain.

One question that I have not seen answered anywhere is why Spain is still allowing Spanish nationals or residents to return from the UK ? I would have thought that a Spanish national or resident travelling to Spain is just as high a risk as a UK national ?

It was a very short-lived lift in UK tourist numbers for Spain. I did see however that there are an extra 23000 people from outside of Spain who have made the province of Alicante their permanent home this year.

Spain have announced they will be restricting passenger travel from the UK (by air and sea) from 6pm (GMT+1) on 22 December until 6pm (GMT+1) on 5 January, with the exception of Spanish nationals and those legally resident in Spain. If you were due to travel to Spain please contact your travel operator before departure.

If you are resident in Spain, you should carry your residence document (the green paper EU residence certificate or the new TIE), as well as your valid passport when you travel. If you have applied but have not yet received your document, carry proof you have started the registration process. Padron certificates, utility bills and property deeds will not be accepted by Spanish authorities as proof of residency.

Travellers arriving from the United Kingdom are not required to self-isolate on arrival in Spain. However, from the 23 November, there are some requirements for testing on arrival for those travelling by air and sea. Spot checks may be carried out on arrival to confirm travellers have undergone a COVID-19 PCR, TMA or LAMP test and have tested negative. A minimum fine of €3000 may be issued to anyone who does not comply.
