Local Police in Mazarrรณn (Murcia) is removing from the public road all registered vehicles uninsured and untaxed, including those registered with foreign plate numbers.

For example, through the DVLA link, Officers check if the vehicle is taxed and has the MOT, when they find out that the vehicle is registered "as off the road (SORN)", they automatically remove it to the Police Station.

What fine can I get?

- No MOT; 200euros
- Uninsured; from 601 to 3.005 euros, depending on the vehicle
- SORN or untaxed; 500 euros

While I totally agree with removing illegal vehicles off the road picking on UK registered cars is a bit lame. Within half a mile of my holiday home there is 1 French; 1 Norwegian and two Swedish cars which have not left Spain in years. If you add the 'recycling bin men's vehicles' which cannot be, or certainly don't look to be roadworthy to the mix, well there's a lot of potential for car sales and tax to be a had

I think UK cars are specifically mentioned due to the new agreement between the Spanish and UK licensing authorities. Maybe now the police will get round to sorting out all foreign reg cars that are on the road illegally, as said itโ€™s about time.

As above says.
The amount of UK cars where i lived in spain with bent MOT's,
potentially dangerous, with invalid insurance. because of bent mot's
and for being out of the UK for more than 30 days .
Shows their selfish immoral mentality !

I know for a fact that a lot of cars with UK plates were sold to Eastern Europeans because selling them through the usual channels was impossibe.

So if you see a car with UK plates, don't assume the driver is British.

Yes of course vino. They would have nothing, no insurance, tax or ITV and probably no driving licence.

If the Guardia Civil wanted to do a roadside purge on cars on UK plates then it's so easy to do, but I've never seen one, mayve others have.

UK plates are so easily recognizable compared to other counties.

I know a couple of British painters and decorators still driving round in a UK plated van. You can't put them on Spanish plates because they won't pass the ITV.
