Is there hope for Spain now.

It is the Shengan rules that need to be changed so whatever the French do it will make no diference it will still be 90 days in a rolling 180 days

So a British second-home owner who stayed in France for 6 months then wouldn't be able to visit another Schengen country for 90 days?

If Spain did the same then if a British, second-home owner (in Spain) stopped in Spain for exactly 180 days, then they wouldn't be allowed to drive home through France? Or would they be able to drive through France without stopping overnight?

That's what it says in the article, but It doesn't affect me because I'm a resident.

IF anything comes of it, and I'm far from convinced that it will in France never mind Spain, it will be 180 days in 360 which is in effect no more time than 90 in 180.

I don’t understand why these countries are shooting themselves in the foot like this. We put an offer in on a place in France just before Covid situation hit,we were wary about the future travel side of things so decided to withdraw our offer before the legalities started work..That’s something we never regretted doing and most definately now with all the new dos and donts we prob won’t buy in France or Spain unless that is rectified. I feel sorry for anyone who has restrictions put on them after having invested heavily in property in Spain, I doubt we would have retired to Spain lock stock we only ever wanted our sun periods there when the weather was rotten here,it was nice to be able to just grab a bag or a cat or four lol and nip over,those days are long gone now and sadly missed but I never regretted selling up when I did..

I personally don't think the 90/180 rule is that bad. Most travel insurance policies don't cover more that 30 days anyway, and if you stayed longer than 180 days in a year then you were liable for Spanish tax. We have never got anywhere near 90 in 180; we might in the future, and it will be a pain working it all out, but it's not the end of the world.

The " Schengen shuffle" now plays a full and active part of my life.

We are just starting to think about the coming year, with a couple of extended stays in Spain, however we want to do an extended journey down taking in Belgium and Luxembourg for a couple of weeks so it's now a session with one of the online calculators to see what will work in terms of dates.

Oh the joy of Brexit
