Supermarkets During 'Lockdown'
Supermarkets During 'Lockdown'
Just wondering how the smaller supermarkets are fairing during the 'lockdown'. I assume many will have seen an increase in trade as people are required to use their nearest supermarket as opposed to the favoured or a cheaper one, but have they been able to keep well stocked to meet demand ?
Alcampo is the nearest for me and having been a couple of times during the 'lockdown' it has always been eerily quiet with more staff than shoppers, which I think gives an indication of how many people travel to use that supermarket live outside of the immediate area and of course have to pass another supermarket to reach it.
Initially after the 'lockdown' the shelves at Alcampo were being kept fully stocked, but now it seems that only essential items are being restocked regularly (milk, bread etc) and even then the shelves are minimally restocked to meet the reduced demand.

My wife regularly drives over to Iceland on the old Alicante road which isn't the nearest by any means .. or the cheapest.
When the police stopped her and asked her why she was shopping there, she replied that is was an English shop and she was buying essentials.
When the officer asked her what essentials, she replied .. " Pork pies for my husband "
With that he let her go with a smile.

I'm just about half way between both Carrefour and Mercadona ( San Luis store ), so I can use either .
Mercadona is my first choice.

Surely Carrefour is twice the distance to mercadona. 3KM as apposed to 1.5KMGraham Knight wrote: 28 Apr 2020 09:59 I'm just about half way between both Carrefour and Mercadona ( San Luis store ), so I can use either .

Re: Supermarkets During 'Lockdown'
It's irrelevant anyway because Graham said that Mercadonna is his first choice... surely

Thank you JamesB.
Yes - Mercadona every time .
Only went to Carrefour once since lockdown.
And that's because Mercadona was closed ( Good Friday ).
elcarretero... I live on the periphery of El Chaperal / La Siesta. So , either supermarket is roughly the same distance .
Both journeys involve passing two roundabouts on the crevillente rd.
Let's not nitpick.

Is it a stated legal requirement that you must use the supermarket nearest to you? or just common sense/community spirit whatever?
If it is a legal requirement, then I must have missed that. I have to walk anyway (no car) so most likely to use the nearest, but just wondering, as I have a couple of times gone to Lidl for special offers.

reddragon. Should you be stopped by the Police ( I haven't - yet ), I'm sure when they know you are going / returning shopping , they will be ok with that .
Especially, if you're stopped on your return trip , complete with your goods and receipt.
Paranoia, appears to be rife just now , with some people .
