From this week's Costa Blanca People newspaper, although I assume that those with the older phones/operating systems contained within the article would have received a notification from WhatsApp at some point last year that this withdrawal of support was happening.

This is usually true, however can't be assumed that people will be updating the phone.

You also use Whatsapp on your computer as well your phone.
