Mr. and Mrs. Gold took a vacation to the mountains for their anniversary. They hiked together to the top of the mountain.

Unfortunately, only Mr. Gold would end up returning. Upon his return he reports the death of his wife, stating that his wife accidentally fell to her death from the edge of a cliff during their hike and he was unable to save her in time.

The police officers end up arresting Mr. Gold shortly after searching his hotel room for the murder of his wife, having found substantial evidence that he intended to murder his wife.

What could they have seen that suggested this ?

The man bought only one way ticket for his wife whereas he bought two way ticket for himself. It means that he was sure that he will be returning alone.
