Spanish media reported last night that the retaining wall possibly fell due to recent heavy rain in the area.

In another separate incident on Spanish railways yesterday evening, a train travelling between Blanes and Maçanet hit a rock and lost an axle, fortunately no one was injured. This appears to have happened within about 30 minutes of the above accident, and the rockfall is also believed to have been weather related.
