Might be some disappointment in this decision By Meta, owner of Facebook and Messenger. The Messenger app suited people who just wanted a simple deskstop app to send/receive messages or video calls without the broad content that Facebook userface provides.

Desktop Messenger users will be redirected to Facebook when the app shuts down. The Messenger mobile app is unaffected and will remain fully operational.
