New fire in Torrevieja, no injuries reported: a five-story building on Avenida de la Purísima was evacuated

The fire has generated a large plume of smoke that has alarmed residents in the Playa del Cura area and has kept the road closed to traffic.

Firefighters are working to extinguish a fire that broke out in an apartment in a building on Avenida de la Purísima in Torrevieja. The fire originated in a first-floor apartment of a five-story building at approximately 7:20 p.m. this Tuesday.

The flames and smoke were visible from the street, billowing from the balcony and affecting the building's facade, especially the second floor. A strong smell of smoke permeated the entire city center, even reaching La Mata. The entire building was immediately evacuated, and thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Torrevieja Park

Firefighters from the Torrevieja fire station, who received the call at 7:33 p.m. this Tuesday, continue working to extinguish the fire, trying to prevent its spread to the rest of the homes and common areas of the building, in an operation that is still ongoing.

Six firefighters from the city's fire station, along with a sergeant and a corporal, were dispatched to the scene with two fire engines. Several patrols from the Civil Guard and the Local Police were also deployed, and a SAMU (Emergency Medical Service) unit was sent, although, given the current lack of information, it did not have to intervene.

Alarm

The incident occurred just four days after another fire last Friday damaged four homes at the intersection of Ramón Gallud and María Parodi streets. As with that earlier fire, the immediate spread of images and videos on social media without further information has caused alarm and fueled rumors — which are currently unconfirmed — that people were trapped inside the building.
