Firstly i sometimes go to the shops for my wife to buy something she may need, even the pharmacy, to save her the trouble and pain as she is still waiting over two years later for a knee replacement
If i had to use the fingerprint method i could not use her card to pay , unless i took her finger with me
I could use my card granted but then she would have to transfer to my bank etc, ok not a big issue just a minor inconvenience
The other thing is hygiene , as with cash machines where you are using the screen to input your details they must be rife with germs and bacteria, with every tom dick and harry touching the screen , the quickest way to transmit covid and the likes
So shops and banks would need to start cleaning the fingerprint scanner after every use
I doubt this would happen as banks never do this with cash machines , and the electronic pen you pick up inside the bank to sign off on a withdrawal is in constant use all day, i have never seen anyone clean it , only the bank staff rubbing their hands occasionally after handling cash , and that was at the peak of the pandemic, not recently
