A man drowns at Acequión beach in Torrevieja

The paramedics were unable to save the victim despite performing resuscitation techniques.

A bather drowned this Friday at Acequión beach in Torrevieja, according to sources from the Emergency Information and Coordination Center (CICU), who specified that the autopsy will reveal the causes of the drowning.

At 10:00 a.m., a report was received that a man, whose age has not been specified, had been pulled unconscious from the water. In response, a unit from the Emergency Medical Assistance Service (SAMU) and another from Basic Life Support (SVB) were dispatched.

The SVB medical team performed basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man, but upon arrival the SAMU doctor confirmed that there were no signs of vital signs and confirmed his death.

Recommendations

Following the drowning, the Regional Ministry of Health has issued a series of key recommendations to prevent this type of aquatic accident. Health authorities reiterate that there is no such thing as a "safe swim" without supervision or a companion, warning that even a simple dizziness in just 40 centimeters of water can be fatal.

Therefore, they urge the public to avoid swimming alone and at night, to strictly respect the flags and the instructions of the lifeguards, and to maintain constant adult supervision and less than one meter of distance in the case of minors, the group at greatest risk.

In case of witnessing an emergency, the Health Department stresses the importance of immediately calling 112 and, if the victim is in cardiac arrest, urgently starting basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
