Is it legal to subscribe to a VPN in order to watch BT Sport in Spain? If so, how does one go about it? Is it safe?

A VPN does not make it legal you are still stealing someone else's content but millions pf people do it every day .
If you have a Firestick or set top box you can get BT sport no problem without a VPN but there are much better apps that that one .

As freddo says, whether you're using a VPN or not, its still stealing.
A virtual private network (VPN) gives you online privacy and anonymity by creating a private network from a public internet connection. VPNs mask your internet protocol (IP) address so your online actions are virtually untraceable.

Well you have to confirm you have British TV licence to watch iPlayer. Happy to be corrected but as a Spanish resident I suspect you might not.
