Google English translate:

I have tried the Leroy Merlin invention to insulate a room from the cold for 9 euros: the best purchase I have ever made.

When improving home insulation, we usually focus on windows and doors, but shutter boxes also lose a lot of energy. More information: Goodbye to radiators: Lidl's invention that heats rooms in seconds and will sell out in Spain.

Winter

Improving the thermal insulation of a home is essential to prevent the entry of cold or heat, depending on the time of year, so that the generated interior temperature can be maintained. In this way, in addition to greater comfort, significant energy savings can be achieved.

When it comes to improving this aspect, it is common to pay attention to some elements such as doors, windows and enclosures, but one component that is essential to improve the degree of insulation of a home often goes unnoticed.

We are referring to the blinds , and more specifically to the blind box, a compartment in which the slats are rolled up when they are raised or lowered. As it is an element that is in direct contact with the outside and has openings necessary for it to function, it can become a source of energy loss.

Both heat and cold or outside noise can infiltrate into the home through small spaces or because there are adjustment errors. However, to stop this from being a problem, there is an invention from Leroy Merlin that blocks the cold, does not require installation and costs less than 10 euros.

Leroy Merlin's invention against cold air

To improve the thermal insulation of your home, it is a good option to opt for the Leroy Merlin roller shutter box insulation kit, a multi-layer kit made of aluminium and metallic grey polyethylene bubble with a thickness of 4 millimetres, which is suitable for insulating roller shutter boxes.

It is very easy to install, as it covers the gap by cutting it to size, stapling it and finishing it with an adhesive that makes the task easier. Just by placing it, the energy efficiency of the home is improved, insulating against high and low temperatures, as well as noise. Its price is 9.29 euros per unit and its dimensions are 1.2 x 0.25 metres.

This invention is an effective solution to completely insulate the shutter boxes and thus block the entry of cold air, which is very important during the winter months. This is a step that, in addition to improving thermal comfort in the home, also helps to significantly reduce energy consumption.

Proper insulation in this area helps reduce heating usage, which means less spending on these air conditioning units. Because the shutter boxes are not watertight due to the operation of the shutter itself and because access to it must be provided for possible repairs, cold air can get in through the adjustments.

However, thanks to this type of insulation kit for the shutter box sold by Leroy Merlin, it is very easy to insulate it, and also at a very affordable price.

Its installation is really simple, since it is enough to open the box, cut the material to the necessary size to cover the space and then fix it with staples or the adhesive included in the kit, thus achieving improved insulation in a quick and effective way.

The best tips to insulate a house from the cold

There is a growing awareness of the importance of having adequate insulation in the home, both to protect against the cold during the winter months and to maintain greater thermal comfort during the summer, as well as being able to protect against noise.

Beyond the use of this type of insulation kits sold by Leroy Merlin, there are a series of recommendations to take into account in order to reduce the cost of heating and electricity inside the home and enjoy greater comfort.

To start with, it is advisable to replace the windows with more efficient ones, as this is one of the main solutions that can be implemented to improve the insulation level of the home. Windows are a frequent point of thermal bridge, and that is why it is essential to replace them if they are not in good condition or are too old.

In order to achieve more complete insulation, avoiding any cracks or gaps through which cold or heat can enter from outside or the loss of these from inside, as happens in the space left at the bottom of the door, you can resort to the use of weather strips.

By placing an adhesive draught excluder on the door, you have an economical, easy-to-install and effective measure to eliminate that small gap through which heat or cold escapes. They can also be placed on windows to improve their efficiency.

It would also be advisable to fix thermal leaks that can occur at certain points, such as the aforementioned shutter box, and the same happens with the metal garage door, a weak point through which cold and heat enter. There are garage insulation kits at Leroy Merlin that allow it to be lined on the inside.

Likewise, different solutions can be implemented to insulate the walls of the home, using laminated plasterboard or polyurethane foam, among others.

It's worth a try for €10. I did notice on our ones that they are open to the outside at the corners.

Worth a try, or too good to be true at €10 ? Next time I am in Leroy Merlin I will take a look.

May be eventually this kit will form part of the roller shutter box installation and not sold separately ? Or they think like everything these days, they will make money having it as an extra cost ?

I was surprised at the gaps in the box section when I had to replace the strap.
I used a windscreen sunshade in one of mine. What they also need is brush strips (that you fit to the bottom of doors) where the slats pass through the box section.

We have fitted carpet throughout including bathrooms, also double glazing on all doors and windows.

When I changed the pulley strap on our bedroom blind recently I didn't notice any gaps and we have drapes and voiles that cover the box anyway, so if there is any heat loss, it's kept to a bare minimum.

But you only need some form of heating for three months of the year anyway ... Depending where you live in Spain of course.
