A 76-year-old driver is under investigation for driving 17 kilometers in the wrong direction on the AP-7 motorway in Torrevieja.

The Civil Guard is investigating a 76-year-old man for driving 17 kilometers in the wrong direction on the AP-7 motorway, as it passes through Torrevieja, seriously endangering the life and safety of other users.

The operation was carried out by the Traffic Subsector of the Civil Guard of Alicante, after the Operations Center was alerted by the company that manages the road and by several emergency calls from drivers.

The incident took place on October 18, at around 10:45 p.m., when the Central Operations Center of the Traffic Subsector (COTA) received a notification from the AP-7 motorway Management Center informing that a white car was driving in the wrong direction on the road towards Cartagena, at kilometer point 754.

At the same time, the 112 Emergency Center registered numerous calls from users alerting them to the danger.

Immediately, patrols from the Traffic Detachments of Torrevieja and Orihuela were mobilized and coordinated to locate the vehicle.

Around 11:00 PM , one of the patrols from the Torrevieja Traffic Detachment spotted the car. Despite warnings via flashing lights, sirens, and loudspeakers , the driver continued driving the wrong way in the left lane of the highway , forcing several vehicles to swerve to avoid head-on collisions.

Finally, the car left the highway at exit 737, being intercepted by the agents on the CV-912 road, after traveling a total of 17 kilometers in the opposite direction.

The driver, of English nationality , was identified and investigated for a crime against road safety , for driving with manifest recklessness, endangering the life and integrity of people, in accordance with article 380 of the Penal Code.

The Civil Guard reminds drivers of the importance of paying attention while driving and respecting road signs, especially at motorway entrances and exits, to avoid situations like this, which can have fatal consequences.

Slight contradiction that really doesn't make much difference Carl but the report says it's a male driver.

Whatever it's scary and the person is lucky to get away with not causing a horrendous accident.
