V16 Visibility
V16 Visibility
Video highlighting that an activated V16 on a parked car on a declining, curved, exit slip road is not visible until approaching car is nearly parallel, even in the dark.
Probably in the situation in the video, the obvious thing to increase visibility would be to attach the V16 on the roof at the rear of the vehicle, but then the main point of the introduction of V16 was so that a driver did not need to leave the vehicle as in the case of deploying the red triangles. Even if the V16 was at the back of the vehicle, not sure how effective it would be on the blind side of a bend for approaching vehicles.
Translation of the text on the tweet: 'I don't know why you complain so much about the V16 beacon; it's great and visible from miles away.'

Re: V16 Visibility
Does look like in certain situations that triangles will need to be deployed as well as the V16, I guess the issue will be whether it is by way of a directive by DGT along the lines of this is what you must do in situation x or they remain silent and leave it to the drivers discretion.Brandyboy wrote: 23 Nov 2025 17:11 If I was ever in that situation I would risk putting a triangle down as well. Just keep a close eye on the traffic. !
I had mentioned in my post about the V16 being put on the rear of the vehicle, but as someone pointed out in the comments section of the video that would be useless if the road in the video was two way.
Someone did post this by way of a comment to the original video. Click on video to play. Refresh forum page to replay without being redirected to rewatch on Instagram. The triangle is clearly visible and the gentleman's hazzard warning lights can be seen flashing, but you cannot see his flashing V16 until the camera zooms in on the vehicle or he is stood next to it.
Re: V16 Visibility
Yes someone did post on X that you could be fined €200 if you didn't comply with the new law by still using a triangle, but reading it properly it means instead of a V16 so I don't think there would be a problem using both in conjuncton with each.
The DGT did mention that a major problem is drivers who abandon their triangles and who can't be bothered to walk back and pick them up,which I suppose is a danger in itself. So it's easier to just pick the right moment and bugger off.
I must admit I 've never noticed a plethera of abandoned warning triangles in my 26 years of driving here.

Re: V16 Visibility
I did mention in a previous thread that I could not clearly see one, until I was virtually on top of the car, and that was during daylight. What's it going to be like if you are wearing sunglasses during the day. I wouldn't be sitting in the car anyway, I would be out and the other side of the barriers if possible.
The beacons only apply to Spanish Registered vehicles, so if you are a Johnny foreigner, you can carry on putting out the triangles.
