And Another V16 Beacon Thread - Pacemakers
Just noticed this in the small print of the V16 purchased, possibly the same with other V16s:
'People with pacemakers should consult a doctor before using this product. They should stay at least 50 cm away from the product because electromagnetic waves can effect the pacemaker's functions'.
50 cm away is more than three times the recommended minimum distance that smartphones should be kept away from pacemakers. The recommendation by DGT was that the V16 should be stored in the glove compartment for easy access, but if you have someone sat in the front passenger seat with a pacemaker they may not be sat a minimum of 50 cm away from the device.

Re: And Another V16 Beacon Thread - Pacemakers
Well I had a pacemaker fittted two years ago at the Quiron and I've never had a problem with listening to a smart phone in my left ear and going through security scanners.
at the airport.
I did have to have it switched off when I needed a MRI scan earlier this year and juggling beween the MRI unit and the Cardiologist was a nightmare as usual, especially as they found nothing wrong with me !!
And yes,I've called it Gerry.

The same advice applies to all devices that give off a signal ,Mobile phones 2 way communicating devices ETC
This warning typically applies to products that generate strong electromagnetic fields (EMF), most commonly induction cooktops (hobs).
Why the 50 cm Warning is Given
Electromagnetic Interference (EMI): These products use magnetic fields that can interfere with a pacemaker’s electronic signals.
Functional Risks: Strong waves may cause a pacemaker to misinterpret interference as heart activity, potentially leading to pacing inhibition or temporary changes in heart rhythm.
Distance Protection: The strength of an electromagnetic field drops significantly as you move away. While most household items require only 15 cm (6 inches) of distance, higher-power devices require more.
Common Products Requiring Increased Distance
Medical and safety guidelines recommend specific distances for various items:
Induction Cooktops: Most experts recommend staying at least 60 cm (2 feet) away while the unit is operating to ensure safety.
Running Vehicle Motors/Alternators: Maintain at least 60 cm (2 feet) and avoid leaning directly over a running engine.
Industrial Equipment: Devices like arc welders or high-power generators often require at least 60–90 cm (2–3 feet) of separation.
Certain Security Deactivators: Some theft-tag deactivation systems at store checkouts recommend maintaining at least 51 cm (20 inches).
Safety Recommendations
Consult Your Cardiologist: Always check with your doctor before using a new high-power appliance, as individual pacemaker sensitivity can vary based on model and settings.
Check the Manual: Refer to your specific cardiac device’s patient manual for a list of restricted items and recommended distances.
Monitor Symptoms: If you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or notice heart palpitations while using a device, immediately move away to allow the pacemaker to return to normal function.

Err, I think the (dubioius) warning refers to when the device is activated not while sitting mute in a glovebox!Carl wrote: 21 Dec 2025 09:54if you have someone sat in the front passenger seat with a pacemaker they may not be sat a minimum of 50 cm away from the device.
