Approval Removed From Some V16s - But Still Legal To Use
Approval Removed From Some V16s - But Still Legal To Use
https://euroweeklynews.com/2025/12/29/b ... ut-warning
Seems a rather strange situation with approval removed but still able to use until the end of their useful life, which I assume would be when their connectivity expires in 10/12 years time.
The four V16s that have had their approval removed are listed on the following webpage below the list of those V16s which are currently approved.

Re: Approval Removed From Some V16s - But Still Legal To Use
DGT have removed approval from five more V16s due to the two manufacturers no longer in business and cannot guarantee the cloud connection.

A different situation from the previous post where those V16s that had approval removed could still be used for the life of the device, for these latest five V16s there is this paragraph in the article which is less than clear for drivers:
'DGT claims that drivers who currently have these V16 beacons in their vehicle and purchased them may be affected. A replacement will not be necessary for the time being, as their cloud connections will serve as backups. According to DGT, the safety of Spanish roads is dependent on reliable warning systems which alert other drivers and are connected to the DGT platform 3.0.'

They can still legally be used. This article provides better clarification on the situation.freddo wrote: 02 Apr 2026 18:39 there are 9 on the list do we know yet is they can still be legally used

The list of V16s where DGT has removed the approval will simply grow as manufacturers disappear.

Thanks Carl but it is still not clear what happens if the maufacturer does not keep up their end of the deal
I believe they are mostly all manufactured in China anyway and the importers are just selling under trade names

Re: Approval Removed From Some V16s - But Still Legal To Use
My understanding from the latest article I linked to is that in the absence of the manufacturer, DGT will ensure that those V16s were the manufacturer no longer is in business (approval removed) remain connected to DGT's cloud. Other than the 10 or 12 years connectivity to the DGT cloud and the purchaser's warranty for 'x' months, I am not sure what other obligations those manufacturers would have had. DGT have got the cloud connection covered, and I would imagine that most warranties on any V16s will expire long before a purchaser notices they have an issue with their V16 - probably at the same time they need to use it.freddo wrote: 03 Apr 2026 09:01 Thanks Carl but it is still not clear what happens if the maufacturer does not keep up their end of the deal

I think you are probably right about the origin of the majority of the V16s manufactured, and perhaps there is no surprise that these businesses that front them are gradually disappearing. The high volume manufacture and sale of V16s was really a once-off in a generation opportunity, and unless DGT change direction in the meantime it will be 2035 before most drivers need to think about a V16 replacement.
