I've of the opinion that El Tiempo couldn't forecast yesterdays weather, which, of course, is a contradiction in terms,

El Tiempo are forecasting 34ºC and maybe some rain at 14.00.

They say the probability south of Alicante is 40% - 70 %, so I'll leave the covering of the garden furniture for now as there's a 30% - 60% probability that nothing will happen.

Shortly afterwards, what is now the "new normal" of this summer returned: around 30 degrees at ten o'clock at night, gradually dropping throughout the night and regaining, once again, those endearing levels of tropical humidity that have prevented sleep for weeks.

But neither the weather alerts nor that sky, more reminiscent of Martian science fiction than a typical Torrevieja summer, deterred the bathers at Playa del Cura, proving once again that it is the epitome of that authentic, popular, beach-oriented tourism that has become the city's trademark. Because when you're on that beach, whether you own a house, rent one, or are "left behind" in Torrevieja, when you've claimed a stretch of sand on the shoreline as early as 6:30 in the morning to enjoy your day, no alert or extreme phenomenon, natural or man-made, can move you from your stronghold.

The red flag didn't matter, nor did the efforts of the lifeguards, who, with great courtesy and patience, allowed those swimming closer to the shore to continue, while warning those who ventured to the edge of the designated swimming area at the buoy line. Even more striking, they completely ignored the repeated announcements from the local police patrols using loudspeakers asking them to leave the water.
