If you have a Woodburner try using the ash from the fire
Have you tried filling it with hot water and putting in a large dose of Domestos which you can get from Consum,leave it for a couple of hours then drain and wash it out , works for me

Carl, If its that bad it might be worth buying a new sink
They are not expensive , i changed mine a few years back when i replaced the mixer tap and i am not a plumber, just found sealing it a bit tricky
There is a a good selection at leroy merlin, but any hardware store will stock them
Also i bought a spray a few years back from a place in quesada that stocks household goods , cannot remember the name, but it was like astonish and for stainless steel, it worked a treat without any elbow grease

If all else fails then it will probably be another sink jimny1. Luckily this sink is in a garage so not seen by many people, but was only replaced a few months back after workmen ruined it with chemicals, so was hoping there was a quick fix without replacing again.

Like you I also found the sealing bit tricky.

I will give freddo's suggestion a try and then if that does not solve the problem I will go to the ferreteria at La Florida and mention astonish, as I am sure they would have heard that name before from other Brits.

Have not seen Brasso over here for many years, and then I think it was only in the Iceland store or was perhaps being sold at the car boots sale being
held in the underground car parks at Punta Prima.

The Spanish and Chinese stores have plenty of silver specific cleaning products, but never seen any for brass. Tried some universal metal cleaning pads from Al Campo once, but not up to the job.

Brass does not seem to fair well in the climate here.

Your correct Lincoln45 - I have only always associated it with brass and used it for that. I think it was probably drummed into me by my grandparents.

Success yesterday, domestos and hot water as per freddo's suggestion, 2 rounds of that plus alot of buffing.
