...just watched the Ludlow Hunt gather for the stirrup cup, before setting off with the hounds for the "hunt".

Great to see the horses, the hounds, and of course, the riders in red coats, black coats, even one dressed as Father Christmas!

A collection was taken for charity, and then off they trotted..

Great English, even British tradition, and I hope it never ceases to be....same as I say for Spanish Bullfighting...!

Tin Hat on at the ready...? :D

Yep, foul people they care about nothing, never mind the foxes the horses and dogs are treated cruelly, our local hunt has been disbanded this year thanks to the sabs, if you could see what they really do no one would ever support them.

Unfortunately you will always get people who can`t make a point without resorting to name calling and personal abuse.

Personally I think killing animals for so called sport is barbaric, whether it's because of tradition or not, it`s still barbaric.

That`s always the excuse of supporters of bullfighting. Tradition dosen't make it right. :irrate:

Those people you refer to above, are merely a cancer to the health of a forum...they are diseased and should be avoided by decent people!

one could say killing animals for food is barbaric..I don't...one could say killing fellow humans is barbaric, but excuse that in the case of War...
One could say killing fellow humans by execution because they have killed fellow humans themselves, is barbaric...I don't..
One could say killing fish for food is acceptable, using nets to catch them by the gills..is acceptable, not barbaric, but killing them by sports such as fishing is not...I do not agree...
One could say, ...but the sanctimoneous will not, ...that foxes killing chickens is barbaric when it is patently not for food, but just bloodlust..I don't...
I see a Spanish bullfight as a contest, pitching the bravery of the bullfighters, matadors, picadors et al against the huge brute force and ferocity of the bull...bred especially to exhibit that same ferocity.
Couple that with the pageantry, music, and sheer tradition...I love it!
So do millions...from all across the world...those who object would be better advised to concentrate their hate against terrorists, disease, starvation, exploitation of humam beings...but they do seem to think being kind to animals will greater ease their conciences and guilt!

Those who cry "barbaric"...do they eat meat...do they ensure they know the conditions and whereabouts of their chosen carcass, do they only eat free range chickens and eggs, non factory farmed fish, do they prefer halal throat cutting, or killing by a bolt through the skull?? Do they eschew veal, lamb, or always ensure their meat has had a chance to lead a peaceful life to full maturity before slaughter?

Do they Hell!!!!! Those Hypocrites are no different to the rest of us.....

On a different hunting subject. My John is a fisherman ( if any one belongs to Lime Bar fishing club you`d know him), they catch them and put them back, on the other hand our GSP is a hunting dog, if she can get a rabbit on the run over the campo, she`ll kill it instanstly.................not nice, but it`s in her blood...............

Big difference in killing an animal for food and killing one just to satisfy the blood lust of a cheering baying crowd.
Early man wouldn`t have got very far just eating grass.
I`m off ... :bye:
