The official bonfire by the Swimming Pools on the Paseo on Playa del Cura at 11.30pm on 23rd June. Programme from Ayuntamiento below.. Small bonfires with wood supplied by the Ayuntamiento can take place on the other town beaches but access will be controlled by Policia Local and Civil Defence.

Just to add, for those on the Orihuela Costa it was belatedly announced yesterday that with the exception of Cala del Bosque and Cala Capitan all other beaches will be closed for San Juan, and bonfires will not be permitted on the two beaches that will be open. Extra surveillance by Policia Local will be in place to ensure adherence.

Did they give a reason, Carl. As you say, a bit late in the day for the notification but then we are always an afterthought her on the coast. I probably would not have gone down anyway, but I am sure that many will be disappointed.

The arrangements were expected to have been announced on Monday, but no reason has been given why it was left until yesterday.

Cala Bosque and Cala Capitan have apparently been the most popular beaches on the Orihuela Costa for San Juan celebrations, hence they will be open and the others closed, and this is expected to "ensure safety and cleanliness" according to the Council.

Regarding San Juan bonfires on the Orihuela Costa beaches, the Council referred to municipal governance that fires are never permitted on the beaches.

I was walking along Los Locos beach on Wednesday and I saw 3 or more very large bags of timber ready for the bonfires.
