Renewal of electronic signature
Renewal of electronic signature
Has anyone had experience of renewing their electronic signature?
I understand that the electronic signature is only valid for three years....but is this true?
We originally got ours at Orihuela costa town hall just under three years ago. We downloaded the info onto our own PC.
Is it automatically renewed or do we have to start from scratch again?
Any advise on the process of renewing would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Renewal of electronic signature
I have just received notice that my digital signature is about to run out after three years. The problem I have is that I have forgotten my password, so I will have to seek help to renew the signature.
Re: Renewal of electronic signature
I don't have one but as I understand it there is a link in the renewal notice. The tax agency has a webpage telling you what to do. You have to do it from your PC. Also seemingly you can only renew it once under the data protection legislation which says it has a life of 8yrs. Sounds a bit daft to me.
Might make the second link a bit clearer

Re: Renewal of electronic signature
If you have lost your digital certificate i.e don't have electronic access to it then it appears you have to apply for a new cert.
What happens if I lose my digital certificate? Can I get a new one?
If you no longer have access to the same PC you requested and downloaded your digital certificate from, you can request a new digital certificate. The process is pretty much the same as if you were to ask for it for the first time. You will be issued a new digital certificate and the old one will be unavailable to use.
It says passwords are not retrievable and you have to apply for a new cert

Re: Renewal of electronic signature
Latest update re renewing electronic signature.
Received an email saying it needed renewing. Our electronic signature is for personal use and not tax purposes as the renewal process may be different for different purposes.
What we did...
Pressed the contact e address and followed the very basic instructions....in other words continue continue continue finish download. Did need to generate a pin / password. Husband had forgotten his so he generated a new password with no problems. (Brian - may be worth trying to renew and just generate a new password) I used my original password and again, no problems. For once, this seemed very straight forward...but I may live to regret saying that! Not sure how long it is valid for am assuming three years again.
