Double Drowning Today - Guardamar

Post: # 47204Post Carl »

Unfortunately, and sadly, we have this news every year.

https://theleader.info/2024/06/07/brito ... ng-others/

Other media reports suggest that these two gentlemen drowned going to the aid of two children struggling in the water.

Elsewhere, this Monday an Irishman was pulled unconscious from the water off Cala Capitan beach and was unable to be revived by the emergency services.

Eight drowning deaths in the first seven days of June on the beaches in Alicante province - horrible, and high statistic.

High statistics indeed, and it's only June. The sea is notorious in Guardamar.

Yes with Guardamar unfortunately there are drowing tragedies every year. How sad for the families of those brave young men. It is on the open sea like La Mata beach which can also be quite treacherous when the sea is rough. I do think parents should be more vigilant especially when there are no lifeguards on duty.

Totally agree with you Bee. My greatest fear whenever my son comes over to visit us that he’d be the sort of person who’d race into the sea to save someone and possibly lose his own life. People are so blasé and thoughtless to the enormous danger of the sea. It’s beyond my comprehension why the powers to be in Spain don’t have permanent lifeguards on duty from Easter onwards. There’s enough money going into the coffers to pay for them. I break my heart reading these sad and tragic reports.

Agreed R. But if you see children in difficulty it is hard to stand by and not to go to their assistance. I have one grandchild who is a strong swimmer and swims competitively but I have nightmares in case he goes out too far. I wouldn't be much good to anybody as I only venture in up to my knees. The lifeguards have a hard time even when the red flags are up people just ignore them.
