Whilst it appears that the opening of the leisure centre is in sight, albeit late, still alot of ongoing works in the area that are the responsbility of the Council without a date for completion.

Google translate, minus videos and photos:

Last date for the opening of the leisure area of the Port of Torrevieja: end of April, beginning of May

The hospitality franchises and the concessionaire are finalising the adaptation of the interior spaces of Paseo del Mar, which will open apart from the progress of the municipal remodelling works in the area.

The new Paseo del Mar leisure centre in Puerto de Compostela Torrevieja It will open its doors between the end of April and the beginning of May. It is the last and final opening date, according to sources from the concessionaire company, which had publicly set its latest forecast for Easter, after delaying it on several occasions in 2024 and 2025. With the bulk of the work financed by a group of businessmen completed, the adaptation of the facilities and the fitting out of the different premises had slowed down due to the significant delay of the works that the City Council undertakes in the port environment to give accessibility to the commercial space itself and a new image to the maritime façade in this area of the center of Torrevieja. Some works, which are carried out by the local Administration that are now underway, although delayed.

Saturdays and Sundays

The concessionaire company and hospitality businesses, mainly franchises, that are going to be established in this new commercial space have stepped on the accelerator and have been working for weeks even on Saturdays and Sundays on the completion of the common spaces and the interior adaptation of the premises. There are more than 20,000 square metres of concession area on the very first line facing the bay, now occupied by buildings with volumes equivalent to four and five floors that have 8,500 square metres for 27 commercial premises. Its marketing is managed by the company Optima Global Services (OGS) which already has 80% of the business space signed and 100% committed, according to its corporate information. It is also planned to launch a multiplex cinema that is expected to be operated by the concessionaire itself, and an American bowling alley, by the pioneering bowling company in Spain, the Quereda family, among other facilities.

The concessionaire company is currently finalising the works on the walkway with direct access to the leisure business centre at the main entrance to the port. It is a large elevated ramp that has closed the views of the sea from what has been the traditional maritime center of the city: connection of Vista Alegre and Libertad promenades, Plaza de Waldo Calero and the beginning of Chapaprieta street and the terrace of the Casino.

The final touches are also given to image aspects such as LED lighting, which has already been visible for a few weeks, large screens and the corporate projection of the commercial space itself that is pointed out in the large buildings that occupy the new esplanade of the fairgrounds, as well as interior design and green areas.

Paseo del Mar, assures the concessionaire company, will open regardless of the obvious delay in the adjacent urbanization works that depend on the Torrevieja City Council. In June, it is expected that at least part of the amusement fair will be able to return to its traditional location on an esplanade of which now only a concrete slab, new lighting and a municipal building that was not initially foreseen in the project can be glimpsed. It is expected, however, that the popular May Fair of Torrevieja must be held, again, in the concert and market venue, next to Delfina Viudes Avenue.

The other access to the port area, located at the confluence with the Paseo de las Rocas (by Juan Aparicio) next to the monument to the Man of the Sea and the beginning of the Paseo del Dique de Levante, has barely completed the foundations now. There is no structure. The redevelopment works of the surroundings of the Customs and the promenade of the bay cliff between the Mínguez dock and the new fish market are also underway, as well as those of the fairgrounds.

Vial and capdepont

The City Council began the redevelopment a few weeks ago of the Plaça de Capdepont with the demolition of the ground floor building with the aim of opening a road between the roundabout of the Plaza de Waldo Calero and Rambla Mateo street, exit for most of the traffic generated by the large underground car park also built by the concessionaire company, which will increase its benefits to visitors to the seafront of the center of Torrevieja when all the works are finished. However, once the demolition was completed, the work on the small square has not continued. At first, the City Council assures that the specimens of ficus and unique multi-armed palm trees that characterize the space will not be removed, but it is difficult to trace a road with the surface now available if the trees are not removed.

The approximately 150 craft stalls of the "hippies", which are now located on Avenida de la Estación, do not have a fixed return date either. They will be distributed between the surroundings of the Customs House and the new pedestrian area configured on the surface of the extinct Paseo de la Libertad and the façade of the new buildings of the complex, next to the amusement fair.

The concessionaire, led by Empresas del Sol and Enrique Riquelme, among other firms in the construction and real estate development of the Vega Baja, has invested more than 50 million euros, of the 20 initially planned, in the commercial space that has transformed the traditional port of Torrevieja. Including approximately five million in the investment in the new fish market and the comprehensive remodeling of the Customs building for use by the Generalitat. In addition to these two works, the Council imposed on the concessionaire the construction of the access road to the port, which is also not finished in the absence of the definition of the footbridge of the Levante dock.

The concession has an operating period of 50 years and the business area, where the delimitation of port uses prevents commercial offers that are not hospitality or linked to sailing, now completely occupy the privileged space of the old landfill next to the bay.

Thanks Carl. I have been watching the progress of the laying of the paving into the upper entrance of the development. They have changed the web view so you don't see much of the overall building works now. I wonder what the space under the area they are paving is going to look like when it's finishef. It is all supported on steel bars at the moment from what I can see . Seven weeks to Easter so they would want to get their finger out.

It is a shame the camera view has changed, especially for those not local to Torrevieja who have watched remotely the progress on the development over the months.

As you say the camera view is limited now, it is just concentrated on a specfic area of the development. In recent weeks it does not appear that specific area has progressed much at all.

Feel sorry for the 'hippy market' stallholders, they seem to have suffered the most from the prolonged development, and still no date as to when they will be in their final location.

Update on the new stalls for the 'hippy market'.

https://theleader.info/2026/03/28/torre ... 5-million/

If the contract for the new stalls is expected to be completed in 12 months, and the tender has still to be issued, then is it realistic that the market would return to the city centre in 2026 as the council hopes per the article ?

And with regards to the wider port leisure centre works, the Paseo del Mar webcam has changed from a fixed view looking out across the marina, to a rotating view that covers the works.

I am glad they have returned the camera to the panning view as the view had gotten smaller and smaller over the last few months. The Dique de Levante looks very colourful after dark on the webcam
